| AdaptBB 1.0 - Frontend Revealed Posted: Oct 20, 2008 - 6:24 pm (Blog) |
The updates haven't been coming too often partially because I wanted to wait to have kind of a "big reveal", info AND screen shots. Luckily this is that day! A demo is still a little ways off, but I can see it happening in a week or at most, two. The possibility of a beta in that time frame is now also a fairly good possibility. That said in this Blog I'll talk about a few of the unique features and usability of AdaptBB. As well, check out the bottom of the article for the brand new frontend screen shots! AdaptBB Real Time Real Time is one of many AJAX-powered features seen in AdaptBB 1.0. With AdaptBB Real Time you will see the latest posts and topics...in real time. The feature will draw a similarity to the Digg Spy feature and in idea, it is somewhat similar. However not only can you see the latest posts and topics on the forum you're viewing without refreshing the page, but you can pause/play and in the backend you can completely control how it looks! Quick Edit After looking over the various forums I wanted AdaptBB to be both similar and different. Draw on the strengths of the others and enhance the simplicities, plus improve on there weaknesses. But hands-down one of my favorite vBulletin features has been Quick Edit. With a Quick Edit version in AdaptBB you simple double click on a post (of course forum permissions are taken into account) and the script instantly transforms that post into a textarea with the post inside. Simply edit the post, change what you want (HTML is automatically converted into bb for easy editing) and click submit. Then just one or two seconds later your new post appears and you've sucessfully edited a post without refreshing or going to another page! Who's Online? The Who's Online? feature is another one of the many things you will see in AdaptBB that takes advantage of AJAX. What may look like just a normal members list, is a list of online activity. In the backend you can edit two templates that control the header and the user list. The amount of online guests and users, as well as the list of online users is updated automatically without having to refresh the page. Not only is this a list of users, but you can even see what they're viewing. Conclusion Alright I'll stop your waiting (assuming you didn't just skip all the way down), here's the screen shots: The brand new screen shots are 18 in total and basically are from nearly every area in the frontend. From the homepage to the Real Time feature. In the next week expect to see another blog covering more features and revealing some backend screen shots. As said, a demo is also a good possibility within the next two weeks. Be sure to stay tuned with all of this upcoming! |
